Welcome to my blog! My name is Lydia and I am currently a third year occupational therapy student, studying at Otago Polytechnic. The Purpose of this blog is part of my transition to practice paper and also to explore the use of Social Stories in Paediatrics. I first learnt about social stories while on my recent paediatric placement. I saw on my placement the occupational therapists and parents alike using them with children and heard positive responses regarding their use. For one boy in particular, I heard how his mum used them all the time to reduce his anxiety when there was a change to his routine or a new situation, she used them when she took her son to visit us, so he knew where he going, who he would see and what to expect. Prior to my placement, I had never heard about social stories and when the therapists kept on referring to successfully using social stories with their children/clients it made me want to learn more!
